Adding Wordpress Themes?

Currently, when I go to add a theme in Wordpress, I am only given the option to upload a file. It seems I no longer have a connection to Wordpress.orgs themes from the admin panel.

Has anyone else experienced this? Feature? Bug?

Thanks for reaching out Geoff. In troubleshooting this we discovered that there was a plugin conflict causing the issue. Renaming the WordPress plugins directory to plugins_deactivated caused the theme selector to load correctly.

To determine which plugin is causing the trouble, each plugin will need to be deactivated one at a time. I wrote a Community Help article Troubleshooting Common WordPress Errors which has some tips for the best way to do this.

An alternative solution would be to he temporarily rename the plugins directory as I did above, look for a theme, install as needed, then rename the plugins directory back when this has been done.

Okay, the plug-ins were deactivated. I deleted plug-ins I wasn’t using or that were redundant. I updated to the latest release of WP today. The media library is now working and I am now able to connect to the theme library. The classic editor is working fine.

BUT NOW: The only site that is working in my multisite is my main blog. The main blog is “Brainstorm in Progress” - the other five kick back a 404 error.

Geoff, we’ve been looking at this issue throughout the day but haven’t been able to narrow down what’s causing the 404 errors with your other sites. We’ll continue working on it tomorrow.

Appreciate your patience while this is being looked into.

Hi Gordon,

I am not sure why it did that either. After reading your replies, I suspected there was some error in the update process. What I decided to do was to take a fresh back up, disable plug-ins, remove sites from the multisite that were plug-in heavy, uninstall plug-ins that were no longer needed and then slowly turn everything back on. Only then did I do the update. It seems to all be working - lighter and faster.

Thanks for your time on this,
Geoff

Geoff, pleased to hear everything is sorted out and running as it should again.
