Dear Support Staff,
from my admin panel, I changed my site URL. From that moment on, I’ve been receiving a 404 error, stating that “The requested URL was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”
I’m afraid of losing all my content. What should I do?
Thank you for all your help. I look forward to hearing back from you.
All the best,
Norman
Hi Norman!
Not to worry, your content should be safe and sound. This seemingly convenient change URL option in WordPress unfortunately doesn’t change things on the backend properly.
We have a guide here on how to fix this issue by editing the URL in two places within the database. From there, you may find this guide on cloning within Installatron a good way of moving a WordPress installation to the URL you would like it to be.
Let us know if you still have any trouble going forward!
Hi Katie,
Thank you for your prompt answer. I followed the steps you indicated in your message. However, there are still a few things that are not working properly.
- I cannot access my wp-admin page (https://foodculture.normanrusin.org/wp-login.php?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Ffoodculture.normanrusin.org%2Fblog%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1). When I try to do that, I still receive a 404 error.
- The whole layout / theme of the blog is missing.
I’m at a loss. Please, let me know how to fix it.
Thanks again, and I look forward to hearing back from you.
All the best,
Norman
Norman,
It looks like the site was installed on foodculture.normanrusin.org/blog rather than foodculture.normanrusin.org. I’ve changed the SiteURL and homepageURL to foodculture.normanrusin.org/blog.
From here you can clone the site over to foodculture.normanrusin.org if you’d like! Let us know if you need anything else.
