My Wordfence site scanner has turned up about a dozen folders for which it gave this sort of alert message: “Unknown file in WordPress core: wp-admin/maint/index.php.” Wordfence seems to think these index.php files are an issue, but I’m not sure they really are. Has anyone encountered this or know where the files came from?
Hi there! I wonder if this could be a false positive? This is part of the WordPress core files, which is necessary for the WordPress site to run properly. There should be an option within the Scan results to either repair or ignore the file. This should help resolve the error!
You’re probably right about them being false positives – since I don’t know much about Wordpress’s innards, it seemed best to check. I’ve now set them to “ignore.”
